COR as a legal permanent resident is only applied to those who are in removal proceedings before an immigration court, and are a lawful permanent resident (hold a Green Card). Requirements to become eligible for cancellation of removal as a legal permanent resident include:



• 1) Individual must show at least five years of green card status
• 2) must show seven years of continuous residency in the United States
• 3) must not have any aggravated felony conviction

All decisions regarding cancellations of removal are at the immigration judge’s discretion. This means that even if all required information is submitted, a judge still may decide not to grant the cancellation of removal.
